Tooth Extractions

Why get a tooth extraction:

You will typically want to save your teeth. You only get one set! But sometimes a tooth is completely unsalvageable. When this happens it is necessary to do a tooth extraction in order to make sure your tooth doesn't cause you any more pain. This can happen as the result of a root canal where the tooth is too far gone.

A person could also undergo a tooth extraction if they are in severe pain and cannot afford to save the tooth with the root canal. The tooth extraction is the cheaper alternative to getting out of pain immediately than the root canal and sometimes that is what the patient wants. Although it is cheap to get the tooth extracted the added cost of getting a prosthetic tooth to replace will always be more expensive in the long run. A tooth extraction can also be done in the case of wisdom teeth. Our office offers wisdom tooth extraction as part of its pledge to our patients. The wisdom tooth is the farthest most posterior tooth in the mouth and is anchored to the bones of the jaw more than any other tooth in the mouth. That is why they take more finesse and persuasion in order to extract. You will need to go to a certified dentist in order to get these teeth taken care of. Luckily our office performs tooth extractions for wisdom teeth. If you have any more questions about tooth extraction then do no hesitate. Call us at our office number. (919) 804-0749

Regular tooth extractions are fairly straight forward. A dentist can use a local anesthetic agent in order to completely block nerve sensations to the area. This way you will experience no pain during the tooth extraction. If the tooth is not a wisdom tooth then the dentist can use his tools to dislodge the tooth. Gauze will then be applied to stop the bleeding. It is imperative that the patient not take any aspirin before the procedure. If blood thinners are absolutely necessary please let the dentist know before hand. After the bleeding is stopped the patient is completely free to go. How is a regular tooth extraction performed?

Wisdom tooth extraction requires more attention than a regular tooth extraction due to the anatomy and the anatomical structures in the area. These can include nearby nerves as well as blood vessels. At our dental office we make sure we miss any serious structures by using the advent of CT scans. This way we can make sure we miss any structures that may be in the way. Then we can give the patient sedation if they choose in order help them tolerate the procedure. The patient is sedated and the procedure is performed removing the tooth from the lower or the upper jaw wherever it is located. We also have nitrous therapy to help patients in their sedative experience so that they don't feel a thing.
