Oral sedation dentistry is used for those patient who have trouble with needles and would not like to go intravenous sedation therapy. For those patients we can offer oral sedation dentistry therapies so that they can have a relaxed dental experience without experiencing the pinprick sensation of an intravenous needle stick.

​Another reason a person might need oral sedation therapy is to help them quell anxiety before a procedure. If a sedative is given the night before then the patient can completely relax the night before and the day of a dental procedure. Once the patient comes into the office he can be given sedation in order to make sure that the agent is onboard by the time the patient gets to the operation room.

​Agents used in sedation dentistry can include opiate, and benzodiazepines.  These agents can relax you to the point of reduced consciousness allowing the dentist to operate with no issues. Oral Sedation Dentistry

If you need sedation dentistry the best thing to do is to undergo intravenous sedation. It is the safest way to give you sedative agents in the most powerful and predictable fashion. Oral agents have the draw back of variable absorption into the blood stream across the stomach lining. Intravenous agents go directly into the blood and can be monitored much more predictable and stronger levels can be given to completely control your sedative experience. Intravenous therapy is the gold standard for using sedation dentistry therapy. There are also combinations of oral and intravenous sedation therapies that an office can use for a synergistic and relaxing dental experience.
