This is a common issue that could be due to a plethora of reasons. The most common cause of a chipped tooth is trauma to that area of the mouth. If you have sustained trauma to your mouth then it is best to see your dentist immediately.  If you are not able to see your dentist immediately then there are a couple things you can do to make sure you make it through the night.  First examine your mouth in the mirror. Check to see if there is any associated soft tissue damage to the gums and to any other structures in your mouth such as the soft palate, hard palate, uvula. Make sure there is not fragments of the tooth stuck in said soft tissue structures. The next thing to do is to rinse your mouth with warm water. Once you are finished look at the warm water flush in the sink and examine for evidence of bleeding. If there is apparent bleeding in your mouth you can place a piece of gauze or cotton balls to the area in order to halt the bleeding. If there is swelling then it may help to put a cold compress onto the site of inflammation. This will help control inflammation and keep the swelling down. Over the counter pain medications will also help with the pain. Remember to get evaluated by your dentist as soon as possible in order to get an assessment of the damage.

  • Toothache:

That is why it is crucial to get an evaluation to be 100% sure of your dental issues. Because each of these diagnoses require very different treatments in order to make your toothache better. If you are experience a toothache make sure to rinse your mouth out with warm water. Once you are finished examine the warm wash for bleeding. Bleeding can be stopped by pressure so make sure to put in gauze or cotton balls to control the bleeding. Just like above cold compresses and over the counter pain medications can be used to control the pain. • Lost Temporary Dental Crown:

Having a dental crown done can be smile altering.  But when a dental crown is first put on your tooth it is typically during the first visit for your dental crown creation. During this first visit the dentist will take impressions of your mouth and fashion a temporary dental crown from this "carbon copy" of your tooth structure. The temporary dental crown is cemented to your tooth partially at times and can lead to dislodging during eating hard foods. It is imperative that you return to the dentist to have the dental crown cemented on. Your mouth is a dynamic structure with living breathing dental tissue. This includes your teeth, and if they notice a space they will close the gap.  If they move and close the gap in your smile, the impression the dentist took at your initial dental crown visit to create that carbon copy of your mouth, will be completely useless.  That means the permanent dental crown that you have just paid for will be unable to fit in your mouth as it is fashioned from the dental impression made on the initial visit. If you have lost a temporary dental crown call us today for immediate cementation.
